LOVE & GRATITUDE

What my mission at Mary's Guest House meant to me...
Sr. Judith Sheridan, smsm (former co-director of MGH)
When I think back on my 8 years as co-director of Mary’s Guest House, my first feelings are ones of love and gratitude.  I always tell people that the women, victims of human trafficking, were a source of inspiration and of pride to me.  They were determined to get their lives back and worked hard to achieve this. To be a part of that transformation was awesome and a privilege.

I do not forget and have a great deal of sadness over the 1 in 5 who could not make the break with their addictions or former life or could not believe that their lives could be redeemed or healed or made whole. Still, I love them and keep hope for them.  I thank God and my Community for the blessing of Mary’s Guest House and the unforgettable women I journeyed with there.

DA Summer Stephen presents the San Diego County District Attorney "Community Justice Champion Award" to Sr. Judith Sheridan smsm.
I wish to share a special event. It coincided with International Women's Day and Sisters Week on March 8th, 2020.
St. Pius X parish had a reception for me to celebrate my 60th anniversary as a Marist Missionary Sister and to send me forth to my new mission in Massachusetts. The hall was decorated in pink and friends gathered in line and at tables. Giant wrap around hugs defied the Coronavirus (an elbow bump could not convey the love and gratitude we felt).
A surprise visit by friend and colleague,
District Attorney Summer Stephan, was special. Then she really amazed all of us as she praised my work of the past 8 years in embracing the plight of human trafficking victims. I shared life with them at Mary's Guest House and educated the wider community about this modern-day slavery.
This seems a fitting summary to my vocation. A lifetime in service to the poor and suffering. What a beautiful life! To God Be the Glory!

Join us in the fight against human trafficking!
