The word "healing" struck me deeply from my very first encounter with the guests at Mary’s Guest House. During my welcome dinner, a staff member gently asked one of the guests: "How are you today?" She had just come back from her first therapy session, for a long time, silence filled the room. She struggled even to breathe normally. Her hands trembled as she repeatedly squeezed her fingers, trying to contain emotions to overwhelming to put into words. Finally, with a fragile voice, she admitted that she fell completely drained, shaken to her core. 
In that sacred and heartbreaking moment, I realized that healing is not simply a beautiful word we speak about casually. Healing is war against the wounds left by trauma, exploitation, fear, violence, and betrayal. It means daring to walk back into memories that shattered the spirit and stole one's sense of safety, dignity, and self-worth. For these women, survival itself has often come as unimaginable cost.

I understood then that what happened at Mary's Guest House is far deeper than providing shelter or services. It is the holy and painful work of helping wounded hearts believe again that they are worthy of love, respect, freedom, and hope. Every therapy session, every sleepless night, every tear, every moment of fear or silence is part of a long and difficult journey towards reclaiming life itself. 
At that moment, I knew that ministry at Mary's Guest House would demand more than compassion. It would require presence in the midst of pain, patience in the midst of setbacks, and unwavering faith in the possibility of restoration. Because true healing is not quick, easy, or comfortable. It is slow, raw, exhausting and deeply courageous. Yet in the midst of that struggle, I have witnessed something extraordinary: even the most wounded soul still carries within her the strength to rise again.
