Being a Light to Others...women thrive in a safe environment...

Volunteering at Mary’s Guest House (2015- present) has been both rewarding and challenging. A volunteer’s behavior modeling is important to build a relationship of trust with women whose basic human rights have been violated. Seeing the women thrive in a safe environment, go to school/work, take responsibility for their own lives, health, and wellness then eventually graduate from Mary’s Guest House has been a privilege to witness. As a volunteer, it is important to let the women go at their own pace, respect their choices, and nurture self-empowerment. I enjoyed sharing basic life skills and talents such as art, exercise, yoga, cooking, animal care, day trips, and compassionate listening to build community and healthy relationships.
